What business minor should I get in addition to human resource management?
Q. As a psych major I am well aware that my major is useless on its own so I am going to get some background in business by majoring in human resource management. My college also offers seven other business minors, accounting, business administration, economics, international business, management, management information systems, marketing, and personal financial planning. Which of these would be beneficial along with my HRM minor?

A. Hiii.. I think you have to choose the Marketing section in Human Resource Management(HRM) because in marketing you get the nice job in the good reputed company on a high post..

A. How about a book store, if you are looking retail? I cant say if it would work in your town, you need to do marketing research to see what would succeed in your town. Also in business .. Location, Location, Location is VERY important to success .. not only do you need the right business, you need the right location .. Passion, YES .. you do have to work long hours but passion because you believe in what you are doing. I work from home and have the utmost compassion and belief for what I do, I believe that is what brings me success .. If you don't like books, don't like to read .. then a book store probably wont make sense. Did deep .. Only you know what you really want to do. GL!

What kind of business license do I need for an internet business or ebay business?
Q. I am planning a business. I will start out with baskets for new babies and if all goes well I will make the extra investment for wedding baskets, and then so on and forth. By baskets I mean gift baskets. I have researched local business license, but I am not sure if a local business is the right way to go, so I am thinking internet or Ebay. What kind of license do you need for these types of businesses.

A. The requirements vary according to your state. Call the business license office for your county and just ask them if you need a business license to operate an internet store. I live in Georgia, and in my county, you do.

A. Definitely keep track of your expenses. Most start-up expenses should be capitalized until operations begin. This means that you cannot deduct certain expenses until the date the business started, even if you paid them last year. Some expenses should be amortized over a period of time. Business start-up costs are the expenses you incur before you actually begin business operations. Your business start-up costs will depend on the type of business you are starting. They may include costs for advertising, travel, surveys, and training. These costs are generally capital expenses. You usually recover costs for a particular asset (such as machinery or office equipment) through depreciation (discussed next). You can elect to deduct up to… [cont.]

A. You may need to separate "Internet" and "E-Commerce" into distinctly different roles. Every business on the planet would benefit from an "Internet" presence, because of the potential mass exposure. The internet allows a business a space to educate its ideal consumer about the companies product and service. The whole point of being in business is to make and keep customers...so being exposed to as many potential customers as possible, is a massive advantage upgrade. E-Commerce...I think this is where you are trying to identify a company which would not benefit from "Purchase" transactions over the internet...and again...as I sit here I am having difficulty thinking how this would not benefit any company. Q. I have taken some business courses but I don't really know where to go to get the merchandise, the type of business I wanted to start was a business selling digital cameras and equipment. A. Digital camera market is very competitive, and unless you have a "good head on your shoulders", I would suggest you stay away. On the other hand, if you want to give it a shot, why not. You would first need to find someone to supply you with the cameras (a reliable wholesaler). Start small from there, and do not make any huge investments. Try it out for a while. If it goes well, you can start expanding.

Can I start a home based business, not get a business license and not pay taxes?
Q. I read that if you dont get a business license and you run an at home based business and your neighbors dont complain about your work, its unlikey the IRS will find out and make you pay a fee as well as put your business on hold until its done. Now, in the state of FL, if I chose to not get a license because the type of business (event planning) did not require one, would I still have to pay taxes?

A. Make note of where you read that. And do NOT read that garbage any more if you value your financial well being! Of course you have to pay taxes! And what gives you the idea that the IRS won't know about it? Eventually you'll have a business customer who will hand you a Form W-9 and ask for your taxpayer ID number before they pay you. Assuming that they pay you more than $600 (and possibly if it's less) the IRS will be notified of the payment. Or someone will get audited and will have claimed an expense deduction for the money that they paid you. The IRS auditor will then gather the details about YOU and make a note to follow the money trail and see if YOU are paying YOUR share. Either way, you're BUSTED! But let's just say that… [cont.]

What percentage of a business do you typically have to give to an investor funding a business idea?
Q. I'm going to be starting a business and I have a person that is willing to handle all of the development costs etc. Since it is an online business, the start up costs are pretty low for a business, under $10,000 definitely, probably under $5,000. In this type of situation, what portion of the company is given to the investor?
Asked by ShadowASL - Thu Apr 26 12:03:04 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In a TYPICAL venture deal (yours is not, of course, since it's so small), it would be pretty common to give seed round investors 20-30% of the equity. Another way to look at it is that private equity investors expect to get 15x-20x their investment if the company is very successful. If your company (assuming success) might have a market cap of $1MM, then 20x on a $5M investment would only be 10%. It's usually a negotiating process in any case.

Ending a home based business - what are the tax implications?
Q. I've been writing off my home based business for the last few years. If I stop using that portion of my home solely for my business, how do I indicate that on my taxes? Additionally, does anyone know of any resources that indicate what the implications are of stopping a home based business write-off? I see lots of information on how/what to write-off for a home based business, but can't seem to find anything on what to do when that ends.

A. You don't show on your tax that you ended the business, but keep track of the depreciation allowed or allowable while you were claiming the home office deduction - you'll need that number when you sell the house.

What kind of business can you start with a small amount of money?
Q. Since I have not had much luck with getting a good job , even with a degree, I am thinking about starting my own business. I do not have much money, do you know of any organizations that can match what I have to start a business. I have about $6000-7000. Is this a bad time to start a business with this economy?

A. Here are some small business enterprises to consider: 1. Providing a private tutoring service ranging from music lessons, English writing and reading lessons: to training seniors on how to operate a particular computer; 2. Offering to supervise or monitor services to senior citizens especially those wanting someone to take them on errands, driving on long trips, watch and clean up homes left behind by seniors who have been relocated to assisted living quarters; 3. Becoming a regional apartment manager servicing several properties while traveling to and fro to collect monthly rents and service tenant complaints; 4. Q. Since I have not had much luck with getting a good job , even with a degree, I am thinking about starting my own business. I do not have much money, do you know of any organizations that can match what I have to start a business. I have about $6000-7000. Is this a bad time to start a business with this economy?

If you open a small business mowing lawns, what is the best/most common way to contract your customers?
Q. I've been thinking about opening a business mowing lawns in the summer and plowing snow in the winter now for the last 2 years now, except I've never actually worked in the industry. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any information about the way that these business owners contract their business. Do they get a year or two contract with each business or is it by the job? Also, in either of the two scenarios how much money would be considered going rate to their customers? Thanks in advance for the information.

A. Business to business marketing is facilitating the sale of one business's products or services to other companies or organizations that in turn resell them, use them as components in products or services they offer, or use them to support their operations. Consumer marketing is selling directly to the customer. All the best to you with your studies!
