Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (branded as Walmart) is an American public corporation that runs a chain of large, discount department stores. It is the world's largest public corporation by revenue, according to the 2008 Fortune Global 500. The company was founded by Sam Walton in 1962, incorporated on October 31, 1969, and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1972. Wal-Mart is the largest private employer and the largest grocery retailer in the United States. It also owns and operates the Sam's Club retail warehouses in North America. Walmart operates in Mexico as Walmex, in the United Kingdom as Asda, and in Japan as Seiyu. It has wholly owned operations in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Wal-Mart's investments outside North America have had mixed results: its operations in South America and China are highly successful, while it was forced to pull out of Germany and South Korea when ventures there were unsuccessful. Walmart has been criticized by some community groups, women's rights groups, grassroots organizations, and labor unions, specifically for its extensive foreign product sourcing, low rates of employee health insurance enrollment, resistance to union representation, alleged sexism, and management efforts to pressure employees to vote for specific parties during national elections. Conversely, others point out that Wal-Mart's rapid growth and logistical efficiency has enabled it to bring lower prices to consumers and more jobs and new small businesses to the communities in which it operates. Q. Anyone know if there's a specific day of the week that Wal Mart changes their sales? I used to work in retail and every wednesday we got an email from the corporate office saying which items were changing in price, so I figured Wal Mart might do something similar . I want to buy a new TV but might wait to see if they have any good deals before superbowl. Thanks. Asked by tjdrag1 - Wed Jan 23 20:01:55 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Wednesday Answered by hollister.freak. - Wed Jan 23 20:04:36 2008 I applied for a local Wal-Mart store job. How long will it take till I start work, if hired? Q. I applied Friday morning, and the local store is seeking people for this position (unloader). I'm 100% qualified, and wonder if the process is quick or slow? Any Wal-Mart employees here? Asked by homeward2008 - Sun Sep 9 11:40:14 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I urge you to avoid working at Wal-Mart. They are notorious for mistreating/overworking/u nderpaying employees. These stores effectively shut-down local stores and move profits out of the community. Employees are sometimes encouraged to seek public assistance to meet their needs, further burdening the local community. Do not shop/work/invest in Wal-Mart. Q. I have a 550 page inspirational phrase book coming out by the end of the year and wanted to sell it in the wal-mart stores. Not sure who to talk to. Do you have to have an idea? Thanks! Asked by Florence P - Tue Aug 7 14:20:36 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. When you call the Wal-Mart 800 number, there is an option for potential vendors (it may not be called that). Once you call the number, they will put you in contact with someone to possibly schedule a meeting to discuss your product.
